Course Description
Many practicing neurosurgeons have not been trained in minimally invasive surgical techniques during their residencies. They are, therefore, not comfortable using such approaches and are at a disadvantage in being unable to offer these minimally invasive and cosmetically appealing procedures to their patients. The minimally invasive techniques reduce post-operative pain, with faster recovery of function and return to work, and reduce muscle scarring and reduction of longer term disability.  Additionally, they are cosmetically appealing and are being sought after by a more educated public.  This course will introduce the technique of minimally invasive neurosurgery.  In addition, we will discuss the use of computer navigation, intra-operative 3-D fluoroscopy and intra-operative CT scanning techniques for safer surgery.
